Tips on Renting a Serviced Apartment in Hong Kong
Travelling can be very stressful to us as mothers especially if it’s out of the country. You will have to prepare everything, from all the things your kids and your dear hubby needs to bring up to the place you have to stay while away from home.
My family loves to travel every time and as a mother I’m in charge with everything. What I do first is find a place to stay which can be very challenging at times because you also have to consider your budget. Thankfully, a friend of mine introduced me to this new kind of accommodation which is becoming very popular. It’s the serviced apartments.
The concept of serviced apartment is to make you feel comfortable and convenient while you are away from home. It gives you enough relaxation from the hustle and bustle of your everyday life. It gives you all the freedom you need without sacrificing quality over cost. Most serviced apartments can beat even the 5 star hotels.
On the other hand, serviced apartments in Hong Kong are a bit smaller because of its dense population. So finding a serviced apartment in Hong Kong can be challenging. But here are some steps how to choose and find the right apartment in Hong Kong:
1. Check for online accommodation. A lot of sites are offering a great way finding the perfect place to stay, use one of the many online holiday apartment websites to search and find a serviced apartment. Just make sure you do this at least a month prior to your planned date because most serviced apartments are fully booked out.
2. Find the right location. It is important for you to consider the location of the serviced apartment. Although some of them are located at more convenient place, check if this is accessible to the trains and buses and also to the MTR station. If you travel with your kids and would love to visit Disney Land, Ocean Park and other tourist spots make it possible to be very accessible for all of you to avoid inconvenience.
3. Ask the owner or the landlord what are included in the apartment. Some amenities may not be included so you have to be extra careful. Most serviced apartments in Hong Kong are going up and if you are a group with older members or you are with your kids better check if there’s an elevator going up. Also ask if the dining or living room is needed to be shared with other tenants.
One tip I can give you is to list which are things you need to consider when renting out a space e.g if they allow smoking, if you are allowed to bring pets inside, if there’s a wifi or internet connection, cable tv, washing machine etc.
4. Ask for the terms and conditions or contract from the owner. This is important prior to confirming the reservation so that you are aware of things you need to keep in mind before you make the payment. Cancellation of your reservation is also stated in the terms and conditions.
5. After everything is done, make necessary deposit to confirm the reservation. You may also ask if you have to pay for security deposit. Some owners require you to pay for this before coming to the apartment.
